This Merino DK base from Cowgirlblues is a versatile, double-knitting yarn in pure wool. It's perfect for sweaters, cowls, hats, and other things too, like taking out of your stash to play with as you ponder your next project.
This yarn is produced in South Africa with locally produced wool from the Karoo. All wools are hand dyed and the dyes used are azo-free and comply with European safety and environmental standards.
The sheep and goats farmed for the wool are free range and mulesing is not practised. This source of wool is renewable, and Cowgirlblues has the capacity to collect 25,000l of rainwater from their factory roof to use in the dying process- this water is reused and recycled wherever possible.
Cowgirlblues are currently exploring natural dyes, however, it is acknowledged that such dyes are derived from plants that could otherwise be used for food sources in the area. For this reason, they are also looking into the use of microbial dyes, however, this is still in the experimental stages.
